BFF

People throw around the term "best friends forever" entirely too casually. I mean, how many people actually stay best friends, forever? Along with my cousin, Michele (who has been my "Cousin Buddy" forever), and my good friend, Jennifer K.(whom I met in junior high school), Linda and I have been friends as long as I can remember. We met in 1981 and she recently celebrated her thirtysomething-th birthday! (And because we have been friends so long, Linda, I won't reveal your age).

My family moved to Virginia Beach the summer before I started the 3rd grade. Linda, her mom, and dad lived a few streets over. We ended up in the same class. There was something about her kind and sweet demeanor. I knew I wanted to be her friend. Our friendship has spanned decades--as we both got married and had 3 children each.

You know you have a lifelong friend when, in the 7th grade you slip on a patch of ice getting off a school bus IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL--losing a shoe up into the air in the process and said friend not only retrieves your wayward shoe, but does so without so much as a smirk.

Now that's a BFF.

I wouldn't blame her one bit for cracking up once she got to homeroom, though.

Hey BFF!
Imagine my surprise when I saw MY name on your blog! You just never know what you will find when you check on those three cute brownies!
Funny thing-I don't remember the "event" that has shaped our friendship over decades, and across several continents (you-not me, the East coast is fine, thanks). Reminds me that the things we do effect the people around us, long after we have forgotten. You know I will always have your back...no matter what...or where you find yourself.
Love, Linda

Ha! You know how your brain tricks you into "forgetting" about the pain of childbirth so you are able to endure it again and again? Your brain blocked out that incident, Linda, probably for your own sake...so you could shop for shoes without asking about their aerodynamic qualities or how hard they would be to find in a snowy bush.

And that's why I am so fortunate to have you in my life. :)

Love ya!

Awwww, yes we have been best buddies cousins forever. I don't want to get all emotional on your blog, but we have shared so much. You were my very first pen pal, then you led me to the land of email...now the land of blogging. I am so, very proud of you for so many reasons. I love ya, cuz!

Love you too, Michele!

And thank you for not complaining about that velvet bridesmaid's dress I made you wear on that uncharacteristically warm Saturday in October a few years ago...;)
